Nestled in the foothills of the Sierras on 10 acres of rolling hills is our marriage retreat get away. Come enjoy and relax in your own individual suite with a full bathroom and fully equipped kitchenette. Where is Matters of the Heart located?
Matters of the Heart Marriages is located in the town of El Dorado Hills. The American River, Folsom Lake and Apple Hill are all within 15 minutes. Explore the great outdoors, soak in the sunshine and enjoy the beauty of the mountains with hiking and water fun!
What about lodging?
We provide you with your own private bedroom and bathroom suite with an outside entrance so that you can come and go as you like. The room is equipped with sheets, towels, blankets, fan, sound machine, microwave, coffee pot, toaster and a small refrigerator. There is also an outside private deck area with chairs and table for your enjoyment.
What about food?
Continual Breakfast is provided each morning. There are choices of yogurt, muffins, fruit, bagels and cream cheese and oatmeal.
Snacks and drinks will also be provided during the day.
Please feel free to bring any of your own favorite foods or drinks in a cooler if desired. Lunch and dinner you are on your own. You can order in or choose to go out to one of the many restaurants on the water, at the El Dorado Hills Town Center, only five minutes away.
How big is the property?
Matters of the Heart is located on 10 acres. There are many places to walk and explore among the hills and trees. We live among nature with the deer, foxes, raccoons, coyotes, turkeys, humming birds, screech owls (who make a soft noise despite the name) 2 cats and one loving therapy dog!
The front deck and back deck have benches, tables, and chairs for your usage. The back deck has a large stone fireplace for cool evenings. Seating is all around the property. You're free to walk to the meadow below. You can sit on a bench to look at the view, pray at the cross or just enjoy the solitude.
There is a fire pit with seating during fall & winter. In addition there is horseshoes, boochi ball and a basketball hoop. A hammock and swings are all available for your use. Next spring we will be adding a swimming pool!

Take Highway 50 out of Sacramento toward South Lake Tahoe.
Stay on 50 for about 20 miles until you reach El Dorado Hills.
Exit BASS LAKE ROAD in El Dorado Hills, CA.
Take the exit to the RIGHT onto Bass Lake Road. Go RIGHT on Bass Lake Road. You will only go about 500 feet and take a RIGHT on Marble Mountain Road. You will go up a curved road up the hill for about .4 miles. Then take the first RIGHT on Screech Owl Creek Road. Go 1.8 miles on Screech Owl Creek Road to our home at 4960 Screech Owl Creek Road.
Our home is almost at the end of the long road. The fence around the house is reddish brown. Drive down the driveway and there will be a parking space on the right side. Walk the sidewalk pathway to the steps. Go down the steps and ring the bell at the large tall front door.

The closest airport to our location is the Sacramento Airport. This drive is 30-45 minutes. You can rent a car, take Uber or a Taxi from the airport to our location and back.
San Francisco Airport
You can fly into San Francisco airport and rent a car, take Uber or a Taxi from the airport to our location and back. The drive from San Francisco airport is 2.5 hours.
What is the schedule?
We prefer that you arrive the evening before to get settled into your room prior to the first day of the Intensive. The morning begins with breakfast and quiet time. Dress is casual and comfortable. Each day begins at 9:00am and concludes at 4:30pm. Sometimes the day may begin a little later and end a little later depending on the needs of each couple. Dinner and free time you are on your own to order in or go to the town center on the water, 5 minutes away, with many restaurants and cafes to choose from.
